Science Supporting Fire Management

For nearly 100 years, Rocky Mountain Research Station researchers have worked closely with the fire community to understand management challenges and to focus research in these areas. Science informs every phase of the fire cycle. Our scientists are continually asking and answering critical questions that support managers in planning and preparing for fire, in operations during wildfires, and in actions to take in the postfire environment. The work of Rocky Mountain Research Station scientists helps reduces risks from damaging wildfires to firefighters, the public, communities and other places and resources we care about. Our research also describes outcomes associated with fire including beneficial fire effects to ecosystems, watersheds, wildlife habitat, and much more.
