Abstract

A sample of 58 logs was used to evaluate five methods of making scale deduc-tions for pecky rot in incense-cedar (Libocedrus decurrens Torr.) logs. Bias and ac-curacy were computed for three Scribner and two cubic scaling methods. The lumber yield of sound incense-cedar logs, as measured in a product recovery study, was used as the basis for comparison. Results showed that the most biased and least accurate scaling systems deducted the greatest percentage of log volume.
