Why here and not there: The conditional nature of recreation choice

Abstract

This paper reports results of several studies to identify the state of the art and direction of research on how recreationists make choices. Findings from the studies have been combined into a list of propositions; the propositions can be considered hypotheses from which future studies can be developed or the effect of management activities on choices can be evaluated. Concepts that underlie recreation choices are illustrated. The complex and diverse nature of the recreationists' decision making process supports a grounded approach in future investigations.
