Abstract

From June 1954 to July 1955 the Vicksburg Infiltration Project collected and analyzed samples of 91 soil series in 7 southern states. The purpose was to supply the U. S. Army with information needed for specialized research on military trafficability, but the basic data on soil properties should be of interest to soil scientists generally. The 91 series may be considered typical of the soils in the Gulf Coastal Plain and the Lower Mississippi Valley. Samples were taken at 176 sites, and standard methods were used throughout the study for both field and laboratory procedures.
