Abstract

This study compared height and diameter measurements and volume estimates on 20 hardwood and 20 softwood stems using traditional optical dendrometers, an experimental camera instrument, and mechanical calipers. Multiple comparison tests showed significant differences among the means for lower stem diameters when the camera was used. There were no significant differences among the methods for volume or height.
