The FIA Annual Business Reports evaluate the performance of the FIA program in an effort to ensure accountability and transparency to FIA partners, supporters and customers. Modeled on a corporate business report, they contain basic business information about the FIA program including accomplishments, performance measures, plans for the next fiscal year, agreements with other parties, and basic financial and staffing data. Wildfire ignores land ownership and political boundaries. A single blaze originating on one ownership can spread unabated onto surrounding properties. Therefore, agencies and communities must work as a cohesive, well-organized unit across boundaries to reduce the risk of wildfire. The wildland-urban interface (WUI) is an especially important area of focus for these efforts.

The Pacific Southwest Research Station charter highlights how partners like local, State, Tribal, and Federal agencies and policymakers, universities, communities, indigenous groups, private industry, and non-profit entities help shape PSW both formally and informally.

Scientists at the Rocky Mountain Research Station created the Fireshed Registry to show where fuel treatments are needed to stop fire transmission from national forests to developed areas. The Fireshed Registry is a geospatial dashboard for land managers and decision makers to view and map a vast array of data related to wildfire transmission, past, present, and future management, and past and predicted wildfires.
