Tropical regions at both rural and urban contexts are expected to experience multiple detrimental effects resulting from climate change. More intense hurricanes and more severe droughts will have irreversible impacts to the environment and will severely affect ecosystem services and human well-being. At the forefront of tropical ecosystem studies, the International Institute of Tropical Forestry generates research addressing how tropical abiotic systems and forest communities and ecosystems will respond to climate change. How species will adapt to these changes and how humans can mitigate and overcome these pressing climatic challenges are also integral to these research endeavors.
