Managing the Land

Tropical forest research performed at the International Institute of Tropical Forestry provides public land managers and private landowners key information on forest conditions, climatic trends and utilization of tropical forest resources that can be used to sustainably and strategically manage forest assets. Part of this research output has informed land-management decisions and encouraged multilateral conversations between inter-agency partners, resource managers, researchers, and other stakeholders. Research also involves the use of multiple participatory approaches which facilitate community involvement in forest management activities, particularly in the El Yunque National Forest. IITF research activities are also integral part of the Guayama and the Manati Experimental Forests which are owned and managed by the Institute.
