Animal Ecology

The wildlife species that live in, occupy seasonally, or migrate through the forests and grasslands within the Northern Research Station’s region form a complex web of life that shapes the environment. Pollinators such as hummingbirds, butterflies and bees are important to forest regeneration, and animals that eat or move fruits and nuts disperse the seeds of trees and other plants, helping them regenerate across the landscape. 

Many wildlife species are threatened by habitat degradation or loss, disease, and a changing climate.  Northern Research Station science supports land managers as they work to maintain the health of forests and wildlife.
