Wildland-Urban Interface

Northern Research Station scientists collaborate with researchers at other agencies and institutions to study changes in the wildland-urban interface – areas where human development meets natural landscapes. This research tracks how WUI growth affects forest health, wildlife habitat, and wildfire risks. Scientists analyze patterns of housing development and forest changes to understand how these areas impact biodiversity and wildfire challenges. This research helps guide land management decisions and wildfire prevention strategies.
