Trees help reduce carbon dioxide and improve local and global environments by sequestering carbon in plant tissues during photosynthesis. Nationwide, trees save more than 850 human lives each year and prevent 670,000 incidences of acute respiratory symptoms by reducing airborne particulate pollution. Research by Northern Research Station scientists and partners is generating knowledge that land managers and communities can use to better understand and manage air pollution.
