Santee Experimental Forest Data Portal for hydrology, climate, and land resource databases
The USDA Forest Service Santee Experimental Forest was established in 1937 as a 2,468-ha site for silvicultural research involving hydrology, soils, and vegetation. Over the years, Forest Service (FS) scientists and others have compiled a long-term database that can now be accessed via this web portal. Our data fall into three major categories: hydrology, climate, and land resource data.
Mangrove carbon stocks in Zambezi River Delta, Mozambique
Carbon stocks in mangroves in the Zambezi River Delta of Mozambique (East Africa) were inventoried using a stratified random sampling approach from 2012 to 2016. A total 52 plots containing 287 subplots were objectively distributed using a GIS based spatial decision support system (SDSS) to represent the characteristics of mangroves and the operating constraints within the Delta area. The inventory was designed to provide estimates of above- and below-ground carbon stocks for the entire Delta. Data include species, height and diameter at breast height for overstory, understory and dead trees, mass of woody debris, litter, and ground vegetation. Data to estimate soil carbon and nitrogen content to 2 meters depth are also included.
CMS: Mangrove Canopy Height Estimates from Remote Imagery, Zambezi Delta, Mozambique
This data set provides high resolution canopy height estimates for mangrove forests in the Zambezi Delta, Mozambique, Africa. The estimates were derived from three separate canopy height models (CHM) using airborne Lidar data, stereophotogrammetry with WorldView 1 imagery, and Interferometric-Synthetic Aperture Radar (In-SAR) techniques with TanDEM-X imagery. The data cover the period 2011-10-14 to 2014-05-06.
Modeling impacts of drought-induced salinity intrusion on carbon fluxes and storage in tidal freshwater forested wetlands
A biogeochemistry model was developed to examine plant gross primary productivity (GPP), net primary productivity (NPP), plant respiration, soil respiration, soil organic carbon sequestration rate and storage under scenarios of drought and normal conditions at Tidal Freshwater Forested Wetlands (TFFW) sites along the Waccamaw River and Savannah River in the Southeastern United States.
