A new midscale framework helps managers identify the most effective treatment strategies to reduce wildfire risk to communities and infrastructure and monitor progress toward risk reduction goals. RiskMonitor is being used to support Wildfire Crisis Strategy landscapes across the West.

This 2023 annual report features a selection of the work we do in support of the mission, goals, and reputation of the Forest Service and its impacts on the people and ecosystems we serve in our region and beyond. We present a snapshot of our research, outreach, partnerships, accomplishments, and upcoming work toward ensuring healthy forests and a sustainable future for generations to come.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service Research Natural Areas (RNAs) network protects some of the finest examples of natural ecosystems for the purposes of scientific study, education and maintenance of biological diversity. RNAs are managed to maintain the natural features for which they were established and to maintain natural processes. The objective is to describe CORE FIA prefield procedures that are consistent and uniform across all FIA units.
