Fiscal year (FY) 2011 was one of renovation at the Institute. This first edition of our Accomplishment Report includes all of the Institute’s units. Hoping you enjoy learning what we accomplished during FY 2011.

Fiscal year (FY) 2012 was marked by the inaugurations of the renovated facilities at the Institute’s Headquarters in Río Piedras and the Sabana Field Research Station in Luquillo, PR. Amidst the moving and celebrations, much was accomplished this fiscal year within each of the Institute’s programs. The FIA Annual Business Reports evaluate the performance of the FIA program to ensure accountability and transparency to FIA partners, supporters and customers. Modeled on a corporate business report, they contain basic business information about the FIA program including accomplishments, performance measures, plans for the next fiscal year, agreements with other parties, and basic financial and staffing data. Currently, only two-dimensional (2D) linear analytical models can be practically used to predict meander migration of rivers at reach-scale. Such models assume that the ratio of channel width to radius of curvature is much smaller than one. Unfortunately, sharp bends are commonly found in nature and in constructed re-meandered channels. Moreover, linear models assume or compute bed topography with a certain degree of idealization.
