- The third forest inventory of Missouri showed timber volume of growing-stock material reaching 76 million cords in 1972, an increase of 5 percent since 1959. - Because reliable methods for propagating greenbriers are needed for wildlife-habitat purposes, we tested stem and rhizome cuttings of common and cat greenbrier and tubers of the latter species. Common greenbrier is the better species for most wildlife habitat uses. It proved fairly easy to propagate from either stem or rhizome cuttings. Similar cuttings from cat greenbrier failed, but tubers rooted well and can be collected at moderate cost. - Forest continues to be the dominant land use in New Hampshire. Three inventories of the State between 1948 and 1973 show little change in the total forest area but significant shifts in forest type and stand size. - Data on 6,850 logs and 1,181 trees were analyzed to predict sawing times. For both logs and trees, regression equations were derived that express (in minutes) sawing time per log or tree and per Mbf. For trees, merchantable height is expressed in number of logs as well as in feet. - Results of a study to determine the relationship between physical characteristics of Adirondack lakes and variations in peak boat-use intensity indicated that 69 percent of the variation in peak use can be accounted for by the number of public and commercial boat-launching facilities per mile of lake shoreline. - The recently-released Timber Resources Review forecasts increasing demands for wood and wood products through the end of this century.
