- Pulpwood production reached a peak of 4,280,000 cords in 1966 in the Lake States, 17% above the previous record cut in 1964. This paper shows pulpwood production for 1966 by county and species for each of the Lake States and compares production by species and Forest Survey District for several previous years. - Many types of fences were found on residential lots in the metropolitan-suburban area of St. Louis County, Missouri, and three small towns in southern Illinois. Wire fences predominated. More wooden fences were found on village lots than on city lots. In general, the more expensive homes had the most wooden fencing. Homes over 5 years old had more fencing of all types than did the newer homes. Homes on large lots and those on corner lots had more wooden fences than homes on smaller lots and on interior lots. - A system of locating defects in a board by intersecting coordinate points was developed and a computer program devised that used these points to locate all possible clear areas in the board. The computer determined the yields by placing any given size or sizes of cuttings in these clear areas, and furthermore stated the type, location, and number of saw cuts. The computer improved on the manual act of extracting cuttings from a board. - The water-soluble amine salt was at least four times more effective than the oil-soluble ester. Concentration of the 2,4,5-T, spacing of the injections, and season of the year were also important; height of the spaced injections was not.
