- The two building decay fungi, the European Merulius lacrymans Fr. and the native Poria incrassate (Berk. & Curt.) Burt., do not often become established in buildings. But when they do, these fungi can cause serious damage to structural timbers. In extreme cases they have advanced to the second and third floor of buildings. - The number of year-old yellow-poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera L.) seedlings grown from equal quantities of seed varies as much among individual seed trees within a stand as among stands of different geographic location. Moreover, production will vary from one year to another. - Removing bark from standing trees with sodium arsenite is an inexpensive but efficient way to produce peeled pulpwood. - Forest tree seed crops in 1958 were considerably better than those in 1957, according to observers. However, heavy and medium seed crops of some species were spotty in occurrence. Late spring frosts were probably responsible for poor or failing crops of some species in Vermont, New Hampshire, and northwestern Connecticut. - The damage that deer can do to both planted and natural tree seedlings is vividly demonstrated by a l/l0-acre fenced exclosure at Hickory Run State Park in Carbon County, Pennsylvania.
