Forests of Interior Alaska

Release Date

Alaska’s boreal forest represents approximately 15 percent of forested area in the United States. But the remote, rugged landscape of Interior Alaska makes it particularly challenging to conduct forest inventories in this region. In September 2018, the first assessment of forest inventory in the Tanana Valley of Interior Alaska was completed by the USDA Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program, in partnership with the Alaska Department of Natural Resources.
