Interactive map showing moss-based distribution of 22 elements in Portland, OR.

Release Date

This map shows the distribution of 22 elements found in moss samples collected by Forest Service scientists in Portland, Oregon. The interactive format allows the user to select data layers and view them over various basemaps such as aerial photography or road networks.

This tool allows users to explore moss data showing the concentrations and distributions of elements in 346 moss samples gathered across Portland, Oregon.

Clicking on any sample location on the map panel activates a pop-up window that shows the data for that particular sample. For individual elements, the pop-up includes the element’s concentration with its measuring unit, the percentile of the concentration compared to the concentration of the element in question across the entire sample, and a histogram showing the distribution of the element’s concentrations across the sample.
