Red Alder Soil Site
During the 1980s, researchers at the Olympia Forestry Sciences Lab evaluated red alder as a potential species for biomass production as well as for learning more about how its basic ecology can aid in forest management. The Red Alder Soil Site Study sampled stands in Oregon and Washington; it also collected data on soil and site characteristics as well as tree growth and yield. This study formed the basis for several publications on alder ecology and growth, including the development of height growth and site index curves. The raw data from this study has recently been made available electronically.
