Project Description

Stacks of bound lumber in a lumber yard.

Pacific Northwest Forest Monitoring and Assessment analysts and partners conduct studies to estimate the use of roundwood by state. These studies are important to fully understand how forest products are used within the region. By incorporating forest inventory measurements with utilization studies, a complete picture of roundwood use by product, species, and geographic location is possible.

Purpose and Scope

Forest Inventory and Analysis conducts Timber Products Output studies to estimate industrial and non-industrial uses of roundwood in a state. To estimate industrial uses of roundwood, all primary wood-using mills in a state are canvassed periodically.

The National Resource Use Monitoring webpage contains useful information on the Timber Product Output and Harvest Utilization data collection efforts as well as links to TPO & HU data and tools.
