Bob Creek proposed Research Natural Area (pRNA) was selected to represent the smooth sumac (Rhus glabra)/bluebunch wheatgrass (Pseudoroegneria spicata) plant association. The pRNA is comprised of two main ridges with steep slopes. The Bob Creek drainage is deep and narrow. Densest stands of sumac are found at the lower extremities of Bob Creek.
