Cedar Creek

Cedar Creek proposed Research Natural Area (pRNA) was chosen to represent a mixed old growth conifer/shrub forest and a Pacific silver fir (Abies amabilis) forest.  The pRNA includes two lakes, meadows, a complete stream drainage and several tributaries.  Cedar Creek watershed lies deep in a canyon and drains into the west end of Bumping Lake.  Lower Cedar Lake is shallow and surrounded by an open meadow dominated by (Carex spp.) and low growing shrubs. Old growth Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) and western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla) are common at lower elevations while Alaska yellow cedar (Cupressus nootkatensis), mountain hemlock (Tsuga mertensiana), and Pacific silver fir (Abies amabilis) are common at higher elevations.
