Drop Creek proposed Research Natural Area (pRNA) was chosen to represent a first order stream and Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii) /subalpine fir (Abies lasiocarpa) community types. The pRNA also includes grasslands, non-commercial forests, talus slopes and Columbia River basalts. Englemann spruce, subalpine fir, lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta) and subalpine sagebrush (Artemisia tridentate var. vaseyana) are common throughout the pRNA.
