Weigle Hill proposed Research Natural Area (pRNA) was chosen to represent Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii)/oceanspray (Holodiscus discolor), western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla)/vanillaleaf (Carphephorus odoratissimus), western hemlock/oceanspray, and Oregon white oak (Quercus garryana) bald mosaic plant communities. The pRNA includes a north-facing slope above Cedar Creek and Jimmy Creek watersheds. Douglas-fir dominates the north slope of Weigle Hill while Oregon white oak and a diverse forb community dominate the mosaic of grassy savannahs.  Western hemlock plant associations are common along the trail.
