- The mutarotation of α- and β-D-glucose near their melting points has been studied in the neat materials as well as in the presence of water, and at low temperature in the presence of H3BO3 and NaHCO3. - Within the area sampled, potentially hazardous lodgepole pine were common on recreational sites. The incidence of decayed and mechanically weak trees was correlated with fire damage. - Dwarfmistletoe on red fir in California can be aged rapidly and reliably by counting the number of annual rings showing swelling and then adding 1 year for the lag period between infection and swelling. - Two versions of a commonly used U.S. Forest Service sign ('America Needs Productive Forests') were tested on four adult special-interest groups in Butte County, California. Half the members were shown the regularly used sign; the other half, a modified sign that included the Smokey Bear symbol.
