- During the past few years several pulp and paper companies in the Southeast have started to purchase pulpwood by weight rather thanby volume. - The genus Torymus is a group in which the vast majority of species are ectoparasitic on dipterous or hymenopterous gall makers. Three species, however, have been recorded from Homoptera, one on the eggs of Cicadidae and two others as gall parasitoids of the genus Pachypsylla which are gall makers of Celtis sp. (hackberry). Torymus pachypsyllac (Ashmead) is recorded, Ashmead (1888), from twig gals of Pachypsylla venusta (Osten Sacken). An additional host record is supplied by Lienk (1951), who reords it from the leaf gall maker. - This study is part II of an investigation pertaining to the peripheral-milling process of planing lumber. Some relationships were determined between cutterhead horsepower and various combinations of specimen, cutterhead, and feed factors. Power demand curves were interpreted through comparison with simultaneously taken one micro-second photos of the forming chips. Secondary consideration was given to the quality of surface obtained. - Another record high was established in pulpwood production by southern states during 1955. The total harvest amounted to 18,014,600 cords, an increase of 1,745,000 cords, or 10.7 percent, over production in 1954. The sharp upward trend of production in the South is especially apparent when compared with earlier years. The 1955 cut was about double the amount cut in 1947 and three times as great as the total production in 1940.
