- Peat materials from 12 bogs in northern Minnesota, U.S.A., showed significant differences in physical properties. It is pointed out that 1) these properties can be related to the hydrology of organic soils only if the soils represent undisturbed field conditions, and 2) volumetric expressions of water content are necessary to correctly evaluate the amount of water in a peat profile. - Measurements of precipitation, runoff, and bog water table levels have provided data for the calculation of evapotranspiration from two forested peatland watersheds near Grand Rapids, Minnesota (ca. 47? 32'N, 93? 28'W). Continuous hydrologie records were collected on one experimental bog for 6 years (1961-1966) and on the other for the past 2 years (1965-1966). - A comprehensive peatland hydrology study has provided data on the climate, hydrogeology, water table levels, and run-off from forested peat deposits in northern Minnesota. Groundwater studies identified two types of hydrogeologic situations-perched bogs, independent of the underground flow system, and groundwater bogs, which were influenced by storage changes in the surrounding groundwater basin. - A study of advanced sugar maple reproduction on a good site in West Virginia indicated that considerable improvement of stem form takes place after selection cutting in the overstory. The study stems were 1 to 6 inches in d.b.h. and many of them were over 50 years old. - In spoil-bank revegetation the emphasis today is on site protection. Quick cover crops overplanted to trees or shrubs are recommended on many sites. In this study we tried to determine how an established fescue cover affects tree survival and growth. - Vacuum pumping more than doubled maple sap yield from tubing installations on nearly level land during the 1968 season. - Lime applications were essential to establishment of crownvetch (Coronilla vuria L.) on coal breaker refuse in the Pennsylvania Anthracite Region, and mulch treatments were highly beneficial.
