Of 1,100 mills active in 1949, only 30 sawed this much. - The extensive oak forests of Lower Michigan provide essential habitat for whitetailed deer and other wildlife. Clearcutting these stands results in high browse production (500-1000 lbs./acre) compared to uncut stands (200-500 lbs./acre).
