- In many cities, high land vacancy has contributed to negative outcomes including visual blight, loss of sense of community and safety, and high crime rates. Although studies show that vacant lot greening programs reduce crime rates in high-vacancy areas, little is known about the impacts of resident-owner-based vacant lot repurposing initiatives on crime. - Rapid Ohia Death is a major concern for the viability of ohia (Metrosideros polymorpha) in Hawaii and has led to restrictions on log movement. The potential for using disodium octaborate tetrahydrate (DOT) and didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DDAC) dip diffusion treatments to control the two causal fungi (Ceratocystis lukuohia and Ceratocystis huliohia) was investigated. - Anoplophora chinensis (Forster) is an invasive species that can damage many tree species in orchard, urban, and forested habitats. Adult survival, reproduction, and egg hatch of A. chinensis from Italy and China are evaluated at eight constant temperatures (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 ºC) under laboratory conditions.
