Northwest Urban Tree List

This interactive Excel spreadsheet provides information on nearly 400 tree species and cultivars that are commonly available for urban plantings in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The characteristics summarized in the Northwest Urban Tree List, such as climate resilience, tolerance to air pollution, drought, soil compaction, and more, can be used to select trees for different objectives and locations within the three states. 

Some of the information in the list was obtained from the Gardenia, Missouri Botanical Garden, and USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service PLANTS Databases, with additional input from practitioners and scientists with expertise in urban forestry and arboriculture.  

This list accompanies A Climate Resilience Guide for Urban Forests in the Northwest. The resource guide examines the potential effects of climate change on Northwest urban forests and discusses strategies that urban planners, foresters, and arborists can implement to ensure the long-term sustainability of community tree canopies.
