Mustela frenata and M. erminea are common mammalian predators in Pacific Northwest forests, yet very little is known about their ecology in this region. Multivariate statistical analyses of geomorphic variables from 23 forest stream reaches in southeast Alaska result in successful discrimination between pristine streams and those disturbed by land management, specifically timber harvesting and associated road building. The Tongass National Forest contains world-class karst features and the largest concentration of associated dissolved caves known in the state of Alaska. This paper describes the dominant karst formation processes operating in southeast Alaska, the controlling geologic and hydrologic characteristics, and the influence of karst landscapes on associated forest resources. Recent sediment deposits and waterline marks in underground karst drainage systems suggest that timber harvesting has increased sediment and debris transport and the flooding of certain underground passages.

The 1993 timber assessment market model (TAMM) is a spatial model of the solidwood and timber inventory elements of the U.S. forest products sector.
