- This report presents the findings of a study conducted to determine change in per acre timber volume on non-Federal timberlands in Washington from the mid-1960’s to 1978-80. The basis for the-study was the measurement of 1,576 permanent plots at two occasions. The study findings include estimates of change in volume and of the components of change-growth, mortality, and timber cut. Timber volume increased during the period in eastern Washington but was apparently stable in western Washington. The findings differ, however, among owners and geographic areas. - Norway spruce cuttings of 40 clones were tested on seven contrasting sites in northern Germany. Analysis of variance for ten-year height growth indicate a highly significant clone x site interaction. This interaction may be reduced by selection of stable clones. Several measures of stability were calculated and discussed. Characterization of sites by the method of genetic correlation indicate that most of the interaction is being generated between sites of high and low elevation. - Employment and earnings in Alabama's forest products industry, like those of most Southern States, grew significantly between 1970 and 1980. The forest products industry accounted for a larger share of the State's economic base. in 1980 than in 1970. Of the 13 Southern States, only 5 had more forest products industry employment than Alabama. Moreover, during this period, the State increased its share of the Nation's forest products industry employment and earnings. - This guide presents the plant association classification for the western hemlock zone of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The bulk of the forest below about 3000 feet in elevation is included in this zone, comprising about one half of the entire landbase.
