- Baseline data from 1979 are presented on precipitation, streamflow, occurrence of permafrost, and physical and chemical water quality in a subarctic, tiaga watershed. First- to third-order streams drain catchments embracing permafrost-underlain and permafrost-free landscapes in the undisturbed research watershed. The data are compared to those from a fourth-order stream impacted by placer mining; streams in the research watershed drain into the fourth-order stream slightly beyond the watershed border. - Incidence of decay fungi was measured in stumps from two thinned western larch (Larix occidentalis Nutt.) stands (9 and 15 years after thinning), one precommercially thinned and one commercially thinned, in northeastern Oregon. Ten species of decay fungi were positively identified from 180 stumps. Two root pathogenic species, Heterobasidion annosum (Fr.) Bref. and Armillaria obscura (Pers.) - The 1980 inventory of the forest resources of the Upper Yukon unit was designed to produce inventory estimates of timberland area, volume of timber, and volumes of timber growth and mortality. Timberland area is estimated at 742,000 acres. Cubic-foot volume on all timberland is estimated at 475 million cubic feet. Timber growth and mortality are estimated at -615,000 cubic feet, and 2,238,000 cubic feet, respectively. Detailed tables provide additional breakdowns of inventory results. - Objective information is generally lacking about women and their satisfactions and experiences from participation in outdoor recreation. Data were gathered from campers in three National Forests in Washington and Oregon. Attitudes, preferences, perceptions, and reported activities of men and women campers were compared. Overall, responses showed more similarities than differences; men and women were similar in their usage patterns, activity preferences, perceptions of problems, and attitudes about management practices. - Excellent natural regeneration of Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii [Mirb.] Franco) often occurs under canopies of Pacific madrone (Arbutus menziesii Pursh), but the effects of madrone duff on regeneration are poorly understood. - Employment and earnings in Oklahoma's forest products industry, like those of most Southern States, grew significantly between 1970 and 1980. In fact, Oklahoma's share of the Nation's forest products employment and earnings increased during this period. In 1980, lumber and wood products accounted for the largest share of the industry's employment, but paper and allied products had a larger share of the earnings. - A survey of timberland cut over from 1956 to 1971 in the Applegate, Evans, and Galice-Glendale areas of southwestern Oregon showed that both partial cuts and clearcuts were well stocked with a combination of regeneration that started before and after harvest cutting.
